An Inquiry into: Water

Water is the most precious resource nature gives us. Second grade students were learning about its importance, its different uses, and what they can create with it. In this way, they discovered many things and the most exciting activity was playing music with water. Each student brought a glass bottle, they joined in groups and poured different amount of water in each bottle. After that, they were able to identify which bottle made a high or low sound and played "Mary had a little lamb". Students were working this theme in English they learnt songs, poems, stories, compound words, water cycle, and vocabulary related with the theme. In Spanish they were making their acrostics, investigating root words, they created their story about Water Cycle and many more things. Students are able to identify who is a good thinker, inquirer, communicator, open - minded, caring, risk-taker, knowledgable...

Planets and everything we can find in the space is a theme every child enjoys learning. That’s why 2nd grade Dolphins was searching some information about their favourite planet , they worked hard on it. Some made amazing models or wonderful posters about their favourite planet. They enjoyed investigating, learning, and were anxious for sharing what they have learnt with their classmates. Let’s see what they did!

Second grade dolphins

To start with, Second grade Dolphins was in charge of Children's day Assembly. It was such a great experience for my students. They were rehearsing the previous week and worked hard making their posters in order to show them in the parade. Of course, they were nervous, it was not easy to stand in front of the microphone knowing that all the students were listening to them. However, they did a great job. They enjoyed that experience and realized that if they work hard they are able to do whatever they want. I am proud of them!

Third term ended with an Open Class. My students showed their parents what they have learnt and how they work. They could share many different experiences with them, such as reciting poems, acting out "The Coquí" a Puerto Rico folktale, songs in english and spanish, and presenting their investigations and projects. It was an amazing morning.

¿Por qué tengo un blog?

A Blog is a step forward in my professional development. This high tech tool will let me communicate faster with my students and their parents. Through it I will be able to inform parents what and how we are working during lessons, the different project to put into practice, share photos, videos, and my students improvements.
